Legerdemain v1.1.0 now available

The latest version of Legerdemain is v1.1.0 and it comes with a complete graphical tileset by Ian McKenna. Previously this version was only available as part of a paid cluebook package, but we have since decided to give it away for free. We’ve had some good sales and lots of support from our customers since we released this version last year, so this is our way of giving back.

You can get the files from our downloads area. Be forewarned this version takes a little longer to download because of the graphics.

Cluebook packages are still available, they come with the cluebook, a hand drawn map, and version 1.1.0 of Legerdemain on a CD. To order one visit the Get Stuff! page.

Origins, Trollhalla, and Giant Cows

We are back from Columbus and pleased to announce that Roguelikefiction has unleashed weird epic poetry upon the public. Our premiere of The Boviniad at the Origins Game Fair was a success and we are now in negotiations with our distributors to see that it makes a strong showing at WorldCon this September. A big thanks to Bill Ward and Maxwell Sebastian for their help in running the booth and making this all possible.

Meanwhile our CRPG Legerdemain had another strong showing at Origins in 2011 and we were excited to learn that word had gotten around since last year. The text-based version of the game is still available for free in the Download area of this site so give it a shot and check out our forums.

Other fun bits to report as well – a long-awaited introduction to Talisman, some RnR with Andy Hopp and his Clifford the Big Red God, an enlightening discussion with Michael Stackpole on the business of eBooks, and lots more. We also had the pleasure to meet game designer Ken St. Andre, whose seminal RPG Tunnels and Trolls went up against D&D in its heyday and continues to inspire fans around the world.

Also the first volume of The Boviniad is now officially available, so if you’d like to order your copy you can get it here. Our first printing was a limited run, so grab one while you still can.

Origins Game Fair 2011

We’re happy to report that Roguelikefiction will be back at the Origins Game Fair this year in Columbus, OH. It runs from June 22-26 and you can find out more about it at http://originsgamefair.com.

We’ll be in Booth #130 with previews of a brand-new book project. Stop on by and say hello.

Indie Press Revolution

Indie Press Revolution has recently picked up our CRPG Legerdemain as one of its newest titles. They are a game distributor specializing in independently produced, creator-owned pen-and-paper roleplaying systems. This could open up roguelike-style games to a whole new market, so we are very excited about that.

If you haven’t purchased a Legerdemain cluebook, you might be interested to know that IPR is selling a PDF of all the game’s printed materials for cheap. You can show your support by purchasing one; good sales keeps us on board at IPR and helps us pick up steam to write other games.

You can check it out here.

Best regards,
The Phenomedom Tourist Bureau

A Flying Trip to Deutschland

Roguelikefiction will be traveling to Essen, Germany next week for Internationale Spieltage, the world’s largest gaming fair. Festivities will be running from October 21 to 24 as fans from all over the world come to celebrate the best and newest in comics, gaming, and everything in between.

We’ll be in Hall 6, Booth 6-311 in the import games area. Come say hello as our lack of expertise in the German language finds us entangled in non sequiturs, hijinks, and various other ridiculous situations.

Legerdemain tileset preview

I’ve just put up some videos of the new Legerdemain tileset on Youtube. It was a grueling and expensive endeavor, nearly one thousand tiles in all, but when you’ve got frozen isles, floating observatories, death by porridge and demonic smoking halls they start adding up. Thanks to the efforts of Ian MacKenna we finally got ‘em all laid down:

The tileset is now available as part of the cluebook package, available via the GET STUFF! tab above. If you’ve already ordered the cluebook package and would like to download the tile version, please contact us.

Roguelikefiction on the Road

So… cheers to all the cool folks we met at Origins last month in Columbus, OH; we had a real blast. Sales of our Legerdemain cluebook package exceeded expectations and we have already sent in a call to our printer here in Atlanta for another run.

Next up is Gen*Con Indy, which runs in Indianapolis from Aug. 5 to 8 and promises to be an even bigger event than Origins. We’ll be in booth #2543 so if you missed us in June drop by and hang out as we peddle our wares and chat about upcoming games and experimental fiction projects we’ve gotten cooking.

Here’s a shot of the booth, with Rabelais holding up the cards and Dr. Zaius holding down the books:

Here’s a shot of Legerdemain’s confused author. I think this was Barley’s, right across the street from Origins.
