A SIEGE is coming…

Just a heads up that the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE) will be taking place Oct. 3-5 in the Hyatt Regency Suites in Marietta, GA. SIEGE is an ambitious three-day affair full of game companies great and small, presentations by speakers in the game industry, and much much more. SIEGE’s emphasis is on promoting and fostering electronic entertainment and game development in the Southeast.

Find out more by visiting www.siegecon.net. Register online ahead of time to avoid the lines. Roguelikefiction will be there so come on out and say hello!

World Map/Cluebook now available!

For those of you who have already shown your support for this site by ordering Legerdemain materials online, your wait is almost over. Our first batch of orders will be shipping tomorrow.

A screenshot of all the goods is available here.

Greetings from Dragon*Con, and a note to Mac users

Well, here in Atlanta we’ve almost reached the halfway point at Dragon*Con and it has been an absolute blast. A big thanks goes out to everyone who has fanned the flames of indie game development by showing their support for Legerdemain here at the Con.

If you’re in town this weekend drop by and see us; we’re in the Marriott Exhibition Hall, Booth 208 in the Marquis Ballroom.

And a note to my Mac users who have had trouble getting the game to run from a CD: everything is better than it seems. Turns out my .command file isn’t as flexible as it could be, if you just copy everything on the CD to the *root folder* of your ‘Macintosh HD’ then the .command file will cooperate smoothly. Copying to the Desktop is not enough; you need to make sure that the /Legerdemain folder is at the root of your filesystem (along with /Applications, etc.)

Feel free to use the contact info on my business card if you have any further questions.

Canticle of the Onslaught has gone to press

Last night, as the clock struck midnight and the cuckoo emerged to give its twelve ominous trills, I clicked send and fired off the final manuscript for the official Legerdemain cluebook.

It is now in the hands of its capable publishers, and those of you who have shown your support by purchasing it will be getting yours soon.

World Map/Cluebook available soon!

Been playing for a few hours? Refreshed by a game that doesn’t cater to corporate marketing requirements and didn’t cost $20 million to make? If so, you should know that Roguelikefiction.com is now accepting donations as well as advance orders for official Legerdemain merchandise!  Please consider giving your support and promoting the advancement of indie-game development!

Those of you who have already ordered via snail mail, word of mouth, or cryptic botanical gifts will have your orders fulfilled in the coming weeks.

Version 0.9.8 now available!

Version 0.9.8 of Legerdemain is now available from the downloads area!

Along with the obligatory bugfixes, this version adds several new passages and items, dozens of new scripted events and hints, prose editing and cleanup, and plenty of new dialogue.  A few new features are in there as well.

If you are upgrading to this version from a previous version, be sure to save in Hamdon’s inn before you make the jump.

In other news, I’d like to extend a big thanks to delgondahntelius, who has completed the Phenomedom world map! Stay tuned in the coming days for information on how you obtain a copy of your own.

Version 0.9.7 now available!

Version 0.9.7 of Legerdemain has been released! Compressed .zip and tar.gz distributions are now available in addition to the Java Web Start distribution. Go get them from the downloads area!

This version features more polished regions to explore, new items, new enemies, new spells, and lots of other goodies. There are also improvements to game balance and a couple of enhancements to the user-interface. Visit the change log in the bug-tracking database for more details.

I’d also like to thank lailoken who has helped make this release as good as it can be.

Dragon*Con 2008

I’ve been accepted as an exhibitor at this year’s largest sci-fi/fantasy/pop culture convention! Dragon*Con 2008 will be held in downtown Atlanta, GA this Labor Day weekend, from August 29th – September 2nd. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend, and I think you’ll find the guest list rather impressive.

I’ll be there in my little booth for four days, promoting roguelike fiction and hawking various Legerdemain goodies. Come by to visit and say hello, or drop me a line if you plan on being in town for this event!

A big thanks to Christopher Barrett for his Legerdemain artwork for the IF Cover Art Drive! You can take a peek at his work for Legerdemain and a host of other submissions by following this link.

And a thank you as well to Emily Short for organizing the drive in the first place! The fact that there were over one hundred submissions indicates how alive and well IF remains today.

In related news, this is the last chance to submit your candidacy for the Phenomedom Tourist Bureau’s World Map Commission. This is a paid commission, and I’ll be selecting a mapmaker very soon. Visit the Announcements section over in the forums for details.
